Import Costs from China

China import and export costs will vary depending on multiple factors.

Exactly how much you will pay in import duties into the EU from China will vary according to the type of product in question.

The primary factor in the amount of import duty you will have to pay depends on whjether the imported producted is already produced within the EU - if it is and your imported Chinese-made product will compete with EU-produced products then you can expect to pay a premium.

On the other hand if the product is not available in the European Union then it may not cost you very much in import fees.

Common products and their respective duty rate in the EU:

VAT is payable all across the EU, including the United Kingdom, although the different member countries do have different rates and whilst there are exemptions, most goods imported from China must pay VAT.

The way VAT works is that it is added on top of the customs value, plus the import duty. This is considered as VAT paid on a purchase and so this VAT added on the imports may also be offset against VAT added on sales.

In practical terms the customs value in the EU is calculated on the CIF (Cost Insurance Freight) price of the imported cargo.
